Development and implementation of a driver safety history indicator into the roadside inspection selection system

Article Abstract:

The Inspection Selection System (ISS) is an algorithm and software program used by safety inspectors at the roadside to help identify which vehicles and drivers to inspect based on prior carrier safety history. The concept field test successfully demonstrated the use of Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) and the Carrier-driver-conviction measure as effective means of vehicle and driver selection for roadside inspections.

Each of the 13 jurisdiction and set the penalties regarding non-use of seat belts and appropriate child restraint systems. Transport Canada (TC) gathers annual survey data on the use of seat belts and child restrains on Canadian roads and provides research support.
