Cheap spares are a false economy

Article Abstract:

New Sulzer Diesel Ltd. expressed concern over the prevailing trend among shipowners to opt for the lowest cost in buying marine engine spare parts. Although the practice can help reduce costs, it can also reduce the efficiency of marine engines. Moreover, the practice lessens the ability of original equipment manufacturers to monitor product quality since buyers who purchase parts illegally cannot report defective products.
