Open hatch bulker trials IT project

Article Abstract:

Mitsui Engineering and Shipbuilding's Saga Challenger, the biggest open hatch bulk carrier in the world, is expected to test the effectivity of using information technology (IT) in ship operation. The IT project is being initiated by the shipping industry and the Norwegian Research Council to evaluate the advantage of using IT in ship operation and maintenance. The project includes systems on documentation, management, maintenance and trouble shooting with Kelvin Hughes integrated navigation system as the central information link.

Article Abstract:

Chantiers de l'Atlantique has issued a tender for between four and six 125,000m capacity vessels in response to Petronas offers solicitation for the development of a further series of LNG vessels. The European shipbuilder will incorporate the Gaz Transport cargo containment system with steam turbine propulsion. Also, Mitsubishi is reported to have put in a bid for the vessels. The Japanese giant has proposed to incorporate the Moss-type cargo containment system.

Finland's first LNG ship

Article Abstract:

Kvaerner Masa-Yards delivered the first of four liquefied natural gas (LNG)carriers to the Abu Dhabi National Oil Corp. in early 1996. The carrier, called the Mubaraz, incorporates the latest technology required for safe and efficient LNG transportation. The vessel was built using Kvaerner's newly developed ship design and cargo tank construction technology and took less than 33 months from contract to delivery.
