Safety belt use in New Hampshire

Article Abstract:

New Hampshire is one of the many states in the US without a safety belt use law. A belt use survey was conducted in 1991 in four NH cities by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to verify a previous survey initiated by the state. The present survey showed belt use rates characteristic of other states without a belt use law. This demonstrated a notable contrast with the 1990 state survey indicating higher use rates. The studies conclude that educational approaches alone as favored by NH officials cannot raise safety belt use rates to higher levels.
