Shipbuilding stays in still waters

Article Abstract:

The Russian shipbuilding industry expects to make solid gains in 1996, continuing the trend set by the completion of 80,000 dwt. in orders in 1995. A presidentially-backed five-year program covering the period 1996-2000 is expected to further hasted the sector's progress. The program is aimed at maintaining the technological capability of the country in commercial shipbuilding. However, the industry continues to suffer from underfinancing.

Fast turnaround

Article Abstract:

Russian shipyards in the St. Petersburg region are easily adapting to commercial production after years of constructing military vessels. They have successfully tapped their skill in military production to produce excellent commercial ships. Among the yards that have made considerable progress in the shift towards civilian shipbuilding are Almaz Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. and Srednie-Nevskij Shipyard.
