The road to standardizing fare collection

Article Abstract:

The proposal to develop a standardized fare collection system is evaluated. This means lower costs, lower prices and improved quality resulting from increased competition. The transit systems, the federal government, and the suppliers have all come together for this project and it is being coordinated by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA). The basic goals of the project in terms of technology and usage are also discussed.
