United we stand, divided we fall

Article Abstract:

P&O Stena Line, the company resulting from the merger of P&O European Ferries Ltd. and Stena Line AB, may be the first of many consolidations among cross channel companies. P&O will contribute all of its eight ships plying the Dover-Calais and Dover-Zeebruge routes, while Stena Line will provide all five of its ships operating between Dover-Calais as well as a fast ferry plying the Newhaven-Dieppe route. More mergers are expected following UK's abolition of restrictions on the merging of cross channel operations in Jul. 1996. Cost reductions of at least $118.5 million are expected from the merger.

Mythical muses and spaces create ambience

Article Abstract:

Passenger accommodations and public spaces are as important to a cruise ship as its technological innovations and advanced equipment. The design of the public spaces of Carnival Cruise Lines Inc's latest ship Elation celebrates the spirit of mythological Muses and a diversity of the art they have inspired. The six-deck atrium and promenades feature floor-to-ceiling columns and classical reliefs. Each individual area has its own unique atmosphere.
