Violence in the workplaces in Finland

Article Abstract:

Violence in the workplace is a small problem in Finland in comparison with the US, although the risk is growing in Finland, particularly for mental health nurses, police officers and prison guards. Acts of violence were committed against 394 people in Finland out of 13,762 surveyed in 1988. Workplace violence affected 40.5 females per 1,000 workers and 40.6 males. Assailants were typically drunken unaccompanied males. Acts of violence were most prevalent between patient and medical personnel. Occupational homicide rates in the US are high for security guards, taxi drivers and sheriffs.
