Investing in employee safety, which include providing protective gear and clothing to staff and crew, will contribute to a worry-free operations in the restaurant industry. The practice, which can begin by selecting the proper footwear that will reduce the incidence of slips and falls, can even contribute to the company's profitability. Operators are advised to consider the task being performed, the item's safety rating and effectiveness, comfort and flexibility and price and durability when making their selection.

Funtime Hospitality Corp, the operator of the first Canadian unit of the Dave and Buster's restaurant chain, believes that there is a big market for eating places that offers entertainment in Canada. With this view, the company has decided to install state-of-the-art video games that are aimed at 30-year-old professionals. Funtime, which hopes to recoup its investments in about two years, expects to generated C$3 million annually in revenues from the video games alone.

A smarter system

Article Abstract:

Restaurants and foodservice operators are encountering more transactions through smart or electronic cash cards. Smart cards were first introduced by Mondex International several years ago. They automatically debit an amount from an account's balance once a purchase is made. Smart cards can provide a marketing opportunity for restaurant operators since they can hold numerous and various information about customers and their consumption patterns.
