Restaurants in Winnipeg, Canada's Fork district are among the establishments that provide services to visitors of one of Manitoba's world-class emerging tourist destinations, attracting five to seven million people every year. Some of these restaurants include restaurateur Doug Stephen's Muddy Waters Smokehouse-BBQ and Blues, WOW Hospitality Concepts Pres George Tsouras' Remington's Seafood and Steakhouse Restaurant and the father and son team of Kamal and Sachit Mehra's Chutney's.

A taxing situation

Article Abstract:

Restaurateurs in Saskatchewan, Canada, are complaining about the proposed provincial sales tax (PST) on a wider range of goods and services that include restaurant meals. According to a Saskatchewan committee, the proposed sales tax will bring an additional C$174 million from provincial consumers, with meal tax accounting for C$40 million of the total amount. Restaurateurs are concerned about the effect of the proposed PST on the industry.

Airport concessions go upscale

Article Abstract:

Cara Operations Ltd. has teamed up with the Winnepeg Airport Authority Inc. to modernize and expand the airport's food and beverage concessions. The partnership is set to create nine new concessions, which are to be situated throughout the Air Terminal Building, such as Second Cup, Norm 'N Nate's Delicatessen, Gunn's Bakery, Tim Hortons and newcomers Exchange Brew Works & Eatery and Flyin' Dawg, Toast! Cafe & Bar. The second level of the Air Terminal building is also set to offer a food court that features a "Neighborhoods of Winnepeg" theme and has a 200-seating capacity.
