Article Abstract:

The majority of UK companies have no formal policy for promoting health and fitness among their staff, despite statistics indicating that many working days are lost every year as a result of conditions such as coronary heart disease (CHD). In the case of CHD, companies could take positive action rapidly and inexpensively by promoting exercise. There are already significant moves towards restricting smoking in the workplace, and eventually companies may take similarly strong action in promoting exercise.

According to surveys on health in the workplace, employees can become fitter and business organisations richer if health promotion strategies are employed within the workplace.
