Can small firms survive in euro zone?

Article Abstract:

The introduction of the single European currency on 1 January 1999 is likely to have a more serious impact on the smaller travel agents, while larger agents have already invested in appropriate staff training and new accounting software. The euro can be used to settle accounts by bank transfer, credit card or cheque as of 1 January 1999, with coins and notes to be introduced on 1 January 2002. Agents will themselves determine if customers can settle bills in euros. Agents will no longer be required to convert currencies, resulting in a lack of commission on foreign exchange.

Can euro end price differences?

Article Abstract:

According to a report from TTG Europa there is a huge variance in package holiday tours across Europe, and long-haul packages are the most expensive when priced in Euros. Tour packages to Sweden, Belgium, The Netherlands, and the United Kingdom were less expensive than tours in Germany, Italy, and Spain. The figures are based on several quotes from operators in each market throughout Europe, with the quality of accommodations and dates fixed.

Patience pays off as Chinese finally see the worth of catering to individual travellers

Article Abstract:

French tour operator, Asia, has reported a 25% drop in group holidays to China, following a 12-13% rise in prices. Sales have also been affected by mediocre food, transport and service. However, Asia's individual holidays remained stable. Accommodation in China has recently been improved, although transport is still less than satisfactory. Asia offers an 11-day tour of Hong Kong and China for between 10,000 and 12,590 French Francs.
