Article Abstract:

The leisure industry will experence slow economic recovery in 1993. Estimated maximum 1.5% growth will vary among leisure sectors. Cautious consumer spending will favour the home leisure market. Lack of confidence will limit recovery of leisure outside the home. Good value will be a consumer priority. Attention will divert from high spend to participative activities. Sport and social activities should flourish. Future development may be in rural recreation facilities.

Cautious optimism

Article Abstract:

Consumer spending in 1995 is expected to rise slightly more than 1%, with expenditure on leisure rising in line. The leisure sector is expected to be affected by government economic and political policy, and also by the bouyant home entertainment market and the launch of the National Lottery. The market is expected to improve significantly in 1996 and 1997, when the government will be preparing for the next general election.

Recovering lost ground

Article Abstract:

The UK leisure industry should experience limited recovery in 1992. Unemployment fears and uncertainty over the result of the general election have damaged confidence. However, lower interest rates and mortgages should encourage increased spend of 2%. Foreign holidays and home entertainment could achieve greater growth.
