Revitalization and Displacement: What Can be Done?

Article Abstract:

The problems of displacement and relocation are reviewed. Low income families, minorities, the elderly, and female- headed households are some of the groups affected by displacement. Conditions which promote reinvestment in older areas include location of employment, attractive houses, transportation reasons, and other local factors. Trends in displacement are studied to define the problem, causes, and solutions. Conclusions show that one solution is not adequate for each city because of the variety of factors involved.

Controlling condensation

Article Abstract:

Swimming pool buildings are susceptible to condensation and consequent building failure. Problems occur when humid air condenses on cold surfaces. Interstitial condensation is potentially most damaging as it may be unnoticed. New buildings may incorporate imermeable membranes to prevent moisture penetration. However, ventilation may be more appropriate for older buildings. Allowing humid air to condense on the chiller coil of an air conditioning system is also an effective management method.
