Lonely as a spy

Article Abstract:

There is a possibility that the English poet, William Wordsworth, acted as a spy on the French. He initially sympathized with the French Revolution and was linked to a radical group associated with William Godwin, political author. He later became less sympathetic toward the revolution. There is evidence of payments to him from the home secretary. Wordsworth traveled to Hamburg, Germanyin 1798, and could have been on a mission at that time.
