End of duty-free will cost millions in sales

Article Abstract:

Experts are predicting that the European Union's decision to abolish duty-free shopping within its boundaries from 1999 will force travel companies to raise their prices to make up for the profits lost on duty-free sales. The International Federation of Tour Operators predicts that flight costs will rise by $16-24 per passenger. The price rise will affect the number of people taking package holidays in Europe which will affect the economies of southern Europe. European ferry companies, whose duty-free sales amounted to $2.5 billion in 1995, will also be big losers.

Myanmar is leading way with new products and extra flights

Article Abstract:

Myanmar is rapidly becoming one of the most popular tourist destinations in Asia, although awareness of the country among European travel agents remains rather low. Royal Brunei Airlines is planning a weekly service between Brunei, Singapore and Yangon, and may add further services later if demand continues to rise. The growing in popularity of Myanmar may have a negative impact on Thailand.
