Article Abstract:

The smart cards implanted with microchip are used in the customer loyalty program offered by Gordon Food Service, Ontario in partnership with 80 restaurants. The customers are given the cards and are assessed for their patronage to a particular restaurant then, based on their frequency, spending patterns are offered various benefits. This program is a success as small restaurants that cannot afford to have a customer database are also benefited.

Toronto, Canada-based Priszm Income Fund, which operates franchises of KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and Long John Silver's, has announced the restructuring of its operation through the closing of 25 restaurants and the sale of 120 others. The reasons behind the move, and the financial performance of the firm' s various restaurant operations, are discussed.
