Healthy profits

Article Abstract:

The Oasis Project, a referral scheme between general practitioners (GPs) and Hailsham Leisure Lagoon, has benefited public health and the leisure facility. Mike Osborne, assistant leisure manager of Wealdon District Council, England initiated the scheme. GPs prescribe a course of exercise to clients who would not normally attend leisure centres. General health improvement has resulted in fewer GP appointments and medication. Osborne considers the scheme has generated leisure income while reducing National Health Service expenditure. The project's success has stimulated similar ventures by other health authorities.

It is also lobbying for the extension of 100% capital allowances to the building of inner city sports facilities. It's future goal is to achieve cabinet status for the minister of sport.
