Points to be considered include the type of materials used, easy maintenance, secure and safe electrical wiring, capacity and ventilation. Particular attention should be paid to health, as spa pools are often a breeding ground for pseudomnas organisms. The customer base is also an important factor as single gender clubs may require different types of equipment than mixed sex clubs.

Russell Smith is the chief executive of Kunick, amusement firm, which has formed Alied Kunick, a joint venture with the food and drink company, Allied Domecq Leisure, to offer leisure and catering facilities aimed at young, single people. The first project out of twenty planned is Smilin' Sam's, in Nottingham, UK, which was inaugurated in April 1996, with an American theme, with games areas and a restaurant with 80 seats.
