Japan: land of the rising sun

Article Abstract:

Japan offers investment opportunities for leisure operators. The Japanese have traditionally worked a six-day-week, leaving only Sundays for leisure, but the pattern is changing towards the western way of life, with fewer working days and more time for families, couples and individuals to enjoy leisure. Golf clubs are extending into hotels, banquets and sports. The middle social group offers the best potential for growth. Japan is looking for ideas from the UK, and there should be a wealth of export orders for manufacturers and suppliers. Another growth area is amusement and theme parks and museums.

Out of control

Article Abstract:

The Rhondda Heritage Park is a top tourist attraction in Wales, with the site used on several occasions by the BBC for outside broadcasts. The park hosted the first outside broadcast of the National Lottery, which provided an invaluable amount of national publicity. The park was primarily involved on an operational level, with the BBC and National Lottery organiser Camelot conducting most of the pre-planning from their central offices in London, England. The audience comprised 1,500 local people. The park was pleased with the media exposure and would willingly host the event again.

Land of nature and legend

Article Abstract:

The Wales Tourist Board has linked with three regional tourism concerns and the 12 Welsh local authorities to set up a UK Marketing Officer Coordinating Group. It is hoped that this approach will make it possible to attract more English visitors to Wales. Efforts will be made to give Wales a recognizable brand through television, press and poster advertising. Wales will be shown as a country with a long history and tradition.
