On the hoof

Article Abstract:

The Leisure Property Forum have been discussing the problems of UK planning legislation for the leisure industry. It was pointed out many leisure linked trips in cars where not to leisure industry outlets. Some planners had cited increasing traffic as one reason for restricting new leisure development. There was concern the data required by the planning authority was not always readily accessible because those involved were unclear what information was required. Others suggested the government had not made clear guidelines for leisure industry development.

The definitive question

Article Abstract:

A recent meeting of the Leisure Property Forum Committee has debated the meaning of the term leisure park, with some supporting DTZ's definition that it is 'a purpose-built development comprising at least two leisure occupiers and usually anchored by a multiplex cinema'. However, there was disagreement over what to called attractions such as Legoland and Alton Towers, some said they should be defined as theme parks and others argued they were leisure parks. The industry needs to decide on such definitions to give it a clearer vision of the future.
