Playing with food

Article Abstract:

The transformation of urban entertainment centres into high tech venues continues, but the problems of foodservice remain unsolved. Traditionally, such centres focus on food and drink vending machines but companies building the new urban entertainment complexes are forming complicated corporate alliances encompassing entertainment, food and services. Dave & Busters, which provides a mix of entertainment, restaurant, bars and fast food, is one of the most successful of the new complexes, but it encountered many problems before achieving success.

Legoland, California

Article Abstract:

The $130 million new Legoland theme park in California has been constructed on a 128-acre site close to both the sea and community of Carlsbad. The park is aimed mainly a families with young children, with 9 separate areas catering to different aspects of Lego construction and usage. Up to 1.8 million people are expected to visit the new park during 1999, with extended opening hours allowing the park to continue operating during the evening for illuminated shows.

Amusements: the new video game revival

Article Abstract:

The video amusements sector of the leisure industry needs to offer sophisticated technology to players if it is to survive competition from home gaming systems. Among the companies seeking to offer new arcade content and revitalize the sector are Sega Enterprises with is Sega Professional Series of games experiences and Konami with its series of music-based games such as BeatMania and Dance Dance Revolution.
