Russia

Article Abstract:

There were almost 14.6 million tourist arrivals in the Russian Federation in 1996 from about 3 million in 1992, according to WTO. Russia has much to offer the business and leisure traveller, with economic and political stability a key factor for success. Inflation is predicted to be 20% by the end of 1997 from over 2000% in 1992. Foreign investors have little confidence to invest in the infastructure required to increase tourism. The cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg are set to remain centres of culture, with the availability of adventure and specialist holidays likely to increase.

The Czech Republic and Slovakia

Article Abstract:

The Czech Republic attracted 71.7 million visitors in 1993, with tourist arrivals thought to account for around 11.5 million. Many more western Europeans have started visiting the Czech Republic and Slovakia, but income from tourism remains small in proportion to the number of arrivals. The two republics are likely to see a strong rise in tourism, as they have much healthier economies tham most other eastern European countries.
