Swimming with the big fish

Article Abstract:

Managers of the new London Aquarium are expecting two million visitors during their first year. The aquarium, which opened in Apr 1997, is situated in the old County Hall building on the banks of the River Thames in London, England. It has 41 separate exhibits based on aquatic environments from around the world, but the focal points are two tanks, each holding nearly a million litres of water, which go through the three floors of the aquarium. The aquarium is part of the conversion of County Hall to leisure use, and represents a 25 million pounds sterling investment by Morita Aquarium.

Domestic emphasis

Article Abstract:

The Barcelona Olympics, Columbus' 500th anniversary celebrations and Expo 92 in Seville have raised the profile of Spain's leisure industry. However, developers have not capitalised on the achievement by providing purpose-built leisure facilities. Future tourist developments are likely to promote lesser-known areas such as the Basque region and Andalucia through emphasis on native culture. Infrastructure developments have improved access for tourist development.
