Olympic Bath

Article Abstract:

The 1995 European Youth Olympics will take place in Bath, England, during 9-14 July 1995. The United Kingdom has only hosted an Olympic event twice since 1945, with Bath having been chosen by the International Olympic Committee over 16 other cities that tendered. Over 2,000 competitors from 47 European countries will participate in the games, with many of them expected to also compete in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, GA. Bath was perceived as being the most appropriate choice of venue partly because of the level of co-operation between business, community and council.

The young ones

Article Abstract:

It is important to ensure that school children are helped to develop their fitness and sporting potential, according to speakers at a recent seminar. Less than half of school children participate in regular after-school clubs and activities, and physical activity among girls is particularly low. Physical activities and sport do not form a very large part of the school curriculum, and children get less exercise within the curriculum than outside it.
