Immaculate deceptions

Article Abstract:

Porcelain producers in the Chinese town of Jingdezhan have become so skilled at producing replicas of Ming and Qing dynasty porcelain that their pieces can fool experts. The imperial kilns of the Ming and Qing dynasties were sited in Jingdezhan, but local people worked in giant collective factories producing household items throughout the Cultural Revolution. The advent of capitalism in China has allowed the people to resurrect their traditional skills. There are now many small workshops producing antique porcelain copies, and this situation opens up opportunities for forgery.
