A framework for prioritizing domestic animal breeds for conservation purposes at the national level: A Norwegian case study

Article Abstract:

A large proportion of breeds are currently in danger of becoming extinct in the near future on a global basis. A framework is presented to facilitate decision making on a national level as to which breeds to support for conservation considering breed prioritization in Norway. A national committee of experts experienced with different breed and species must make the decision.

Genetics, taxonomy and conservation of the threatened California Gnatcatcher

Article Abstract:

The California Gnatcatcher (Polioptila californica) is in dispute due to geographically restricted ecosystem with high endemism. A direct sequencing of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) is used to find out the genetic distinctiveness of subspecies. The study points at the danger of focusing conservation efforts for threatened habitats on a single species.
