A needle from the haystack

Article Abstract:

The isolation of a specific protein assembly from mouse brains that help to explain some of the memory loss seen in Alzheimer's disease is described. The key component of the protein is the amyloid-beta peptide (Abeta), which is widely believed to have casual role in Alzheimer's disease.

Drosophila long-term memory formation involves regulation of cathepsin activity

Article Abstract:

Effector genes' participation in the formation of long-term memory is studied. It is found that the Crammer gene, a mutant of Drosophila melanogaster and inhibitor of cathepsins could be responsible for Alzheimer's disease.

Brain asymmetry and long-term memory

Article Abstract:

An asymmetrically positioned brain structure in the fruitfly Drosophila is studied. The results indicate that brain asymmetry is required for generating or retrieving long-term memory.
