A tree without leaves

Article Abstract:

The discovery of Eospermatopteris stumps in the nineteenth century has provided a glimpse of the requirements that are necessary to make a tree. They have shown that the first giants in the history of the land plants achieved the tree habit and significant biomass despite their inability to construct optimal photosynthetic structures and despite an extensive root system.

Puzzling out the past

Article Abstract:

Verification of the habits of our ancestors through dating of archaeological finds requires a system of verification. The article urges patience and persistence in pursuing separate lines of corroboration to analyze discoveries, always using several of the methods available: thermoluminescence, radiocarbon dating, and potassium-argon and fission track methods.

Direct dating of early upper Paleolithic human remains from Mladec

Article Abstract:

The first successful direct accelerator mass spectrometry radiocarbon dating of five representative human fossils from Mladec Caves in Moravia is presented. The data is sufficient to confirm that the Mladec human assemblage is the oldest cranial, dental and postcranial assemblage of early modern humans in Europe.
