Abundance and Species Richness of Nocturnal Insects on Organic and Conventional Farms: Effects of Agricultural Intensification on Bat Foraging

Article Abstract:

The influence of organic farming and agricultural intensification is examined on the United Kingdom's bat populations. Research shows that agricultural intensification reduces the abundance of insects comprising the bat diet; implications for conservation efforts are discussed.

The Global Village: Linkages between International Coffee Markets and Grazing by Livestock in a South Indian Wildlife Reserve

A critique is presented of subsistence agricultural systems in comparison to commercial ones regarding impacts on the environment, using as an example dung export and the resultant increase in grazing pressures in coffee plantations adjacent to India's Bandipur National Park.

The role of incentive programs in conserving the snow leopard

Assessment of incentive-based snow leopard conservation programs in central and southern Asia indicates that these programs need to become more comprehensive and extensive, with a higher degree of cost internalization, to increase their effectiveness.
