An earth on fire

Article Abstract:

New insights into earth's environmental history can be provided by an integrated approach, combining studies of the carbon cycle with research into the evolution of sulphur cycle. This is based on an isotope mass-balance modeling approach, and on the use of two geochemical indicators, the carbon-isotope and sulphur-isotope records.

Self-organization of dissolved organic matter to micelle-like microparticles in river water

Article Abstract:

Researchers in Germany have found that up to 25% of the dissolved organic carbon in sterile filtered river water aggregates to particles of 0.4-0.8 micrometres. Micelle-like microparticles could be food for plankton. This means that some revision is needed in common models of carbon conversion in aquatic systems.

Sources, sinks and seasons

Article Abstract:

The various phases of the seasonal cycles of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere that decides the time when an area becomes a source or sink of the gas are discussed. Findings reveal that high temperatures highly decrease the efficiency of terrestrial carbon uptake in a region.
