An evaluation of management objectives for Canada's commercial harp seal hung, 1966-1998

Article Abstract:

Canada's commercial hunt for Northwest Atlantic harp seals has reached dangerous levels. Government's efforts to manage this hunt have not achieved their objectives. Canada's approach to harp seal management between 1996 and 1998 cannot be deemed precautionary or risk-averse.

Impacts of Roads and Hunting on Central African Rainforest Mammals

Article Abstract:

The various impact levels of road expansion and hunting pressure on several wildlife species in Gabon are presented. Findings show that small and large ungulates were impacted the most, and that even moderate hunting levels can significantly alter mammal community structure.

Road Facilitation of Trematode Infections in Snails of Northern Alaska

Article Abstract:

Research on the Dalton Highway in Alaska indicates that road maintenance, vehicles of vertebrate vectors drawn to the highway foster snail or trematode colonization. Implications for studying how roads impact disease transmission are discussed.
