Are world summits really necessary?

Article Abstract:

The annual meeting of the G7 countries in Jun 1995, held in Halifax, Nova Scotia, had no substantial outcome as topics were poorly chosen while the invitation list did not reflect reality. The issues of resource distribution in the International Monetary Fund and the Bosnian conflict were discussed, both topics which could have been settled in other forums. Meanwhile, the Japan-US bilateral motor-car trade dispute was sidelined instead of being the focus as it should have been. The G7 complement has been extended to include Russia and yet China, a major, growing economic power is still excluded.

Setting priorities is painful but necessary

Article Abstract:

The US National Science Board can play an important role in the development of the country's science policies. These policies have often conflicted with the legislative agenda of Congress. Moreover, the Office of Science and Technology Policy failed in its duty as a policy-setting body for the government. NSB can have a chance of fulfilling its duty to provide science policy advice to both branches of the government.

What's really for dinner: the truth about commercial "pet" food

Article Abstract:

Processed pet foods are often not as nutritionally balanced as their manufacturers claim them to be. Since manufacturers have mastered the art of deception in pet foods, pet owners must learn to read ingredient labels carefully to be able to diminish the risks unhealthful foods pose to pets.
