Barrage of mud fails to stick on sinking Super Collider

Article Abstract:

The project contractors of the Superconducting Super Collider (SSC), accused of misappropriation of funds upto $23 million, escaped conviction at an enquiry by a congressional subcommittee. The managers of the project claimed that the project, estimated at about $8.2 billion, was finished on time and within the proposed budget. The project, 20 percent of which has been completed, utilized only 4 percent of the $840 million contingency fund and estimates show that the entire project would have cost only 12 percent of the total amount for completion.

US and Europe set to clash over emissions

Article Abstract:

The opening of the fourth Conference of the Parties to the International Framework Convention on Climate Change in Buenos Aires may be overshadowed by the dispute between Europe and the US over the use of emissions trading to meet target reductions in carbon emissions. Environmental groups believe that the US wants to use emissions trade with certain countries to avoid making significant cuts to its own emissions.
