An international code of ethics for scientists has been proposed to solve the problem of the balance of power. Research projects that involve collaboration between scientists from developing countries and the industrialized nations are affected.

Battle lines are drawn as French researchers resign en masse

The 72000 signatories of the save research group, had promised to resign from any management duties unless the government met their demands. The effect of this protest call on the government of France and on President Jacques Chirac is discussed.

Resignations hit French science reforms

France's science minister Claude Allegre is planning sweeping reforms of the research system, but now the entire senior administration of the research department has resigned. Some of the directors wish to return to research following years of work at the ministry, but there is a feeling that the structures set up to coordinate research agencies and universities have not fully converged satisfactorily.
