Bending and buckling of carbon nanotubes under large strain

Article Abstract:

The structure of bent carbon nanotubes has, until now, only been evident through finding nanotubes which have been bent through distortion of the substrate or during deposition. A new study, using atom force microscopes, shows that large multiwalled nanotubes can be repeatedly bent without suffering gross damage. The study shows that carbon nanotubes are extremely flexible under repeated bending and will withstand large strains.
