MCR attacks government proposal to sell off research institutes

Article Abstract:

Britain's Advisory Committee on Science and Technology has published two proposals which would effectively eliminate the five research councils that supervise UK-funded science. Under the less drastic plan, the current councils would be restructured and retain only funding and oversight roles. Dai Rees, head of the Medical Research Council, warns that such a move could be disastrous, especially if the short-sighted goals of private enterprise are allowed to dictate research agenda.
