Impairment of antigen-specific T-cell priming in mice lacking CD40 ligand

Article Abstract:

A study has been conducted to determine whether expression of the CD40 ligand influences T-cell responsiveness by comparing the responses of CD40L-deficient and wild-type mice immunized with a protein antigen. Mice cells lacking CD40 failed to evoke cell responses upon antigen challenge, suggesting an impaired humoral immune response. An analysis of the naive CD40-deficient cells in normal and mutant mice showed that CD40 L expression is required for the priming of CD4+ T cells, which are needed for initiating specific T-cell immune responses.
