CONSTANS mediates between the circadian clock and the control of flowering in Arabidopsis

Article Abstract:

Research into the way in which Arabidopsis mutations affect flowering time and the circadian clock is described. The study shows that the CONSTANS gene acts as a mediator between the circadian clock and the control of flowering.

Activation of floral meristem identity genes in Arabidopsis

Article Abstract:

The expression of the Arabidopsis flowering-time gene CONSTANS (CO) regulates flowering irrespective of the length of the day. The transcription of LEAFY and TERMINAL FLOWER meristem-identity-genes occurs rapidly in response to CO expression, while that of the Arabidopsis floral meristem-identity genes, APETALA1 (AP1) occurs much later. This suggests that AP1 stimulation involves an additional genetic pathway.

A Polycomb-group gene regulates gene expression in Arabidopsis

Article Abstract:

The CURLY LEAF (CLF) gene of Arabidopsis is required for the stable repression of AGAMOUS gene (AG) transcription in leaves, inflorescence stems and flowers. In addition to CLF, the APETALA2 and LEUNIG genes also repress AG in flowers. CLF, however, acts in the later stages of flower development. CLF also encodes a protein with homology to the product of the Polycomb-group gene Enhancer of zeste.
