Carbon nanotubes tune up

Article Abstract:

A nanometer scale version of a musical bow is demonstrated by exciting and detecting mechanical resonances in a carbon nanotube suspended between two gold electrodes. It was demonstrated that the resonance frequency, or pitch, of the nanotube could be tuned by varying a gate voltage, which serves as both an electronic tension adjustment and a means of exciting the vibrations.

Large-scale assembly of carbon nanotubes

Article Abstract:

Chemically functionalized patterns on a surface, to which pre-grown nanotubes in solution can align themselves in huge numbers have been created. This method allows wafer-scale fabrication of millions of carbon- nanotube precision.
