Charmed, I'm sure

Article Abstract:

Many postdoctoral fellows and young scientists are found to use good-luck charms, which can help laboratory members bond in a sort of psychological hopefulness. These totems can benefit researchers on several levels, such as a bonding activity to bring lab members together, a giver of hope when experiments are failing or take the edge off serious research pursuits.

Klotho converts canonical FGF receptor into a specific receptor for FGF23

Article Abstract:

A renal homogenate has shown that Klotho, a senescence-related molecule, converts the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) into the FGF23 receptor. Klotho is found to be very important for endogenous FGF23 function and the results have provided insights into the diversity and specificity of interactions between FGF and FGF receptors.
