Confirmation by X-ray diffraction of the endohedral nature of the metallofullerene Y@C(sub 82)

Article Abstract:

Yttrium atom enclosed in the cage of fullerenes with various metal atoms is located away from the centre of the C(sub 82) molecule with strong binding to the carbon cage in endohedral metallofullerenes as revealed by a synchrotron X-ray power diffraction study of the metallofullerenes. These observations are first over their kind to provide a concrete proof for the endohedral nature of the metallofullerenes.

A stable non-classical metallofullerene family

Article Abstract:

A family of non-classical endohedral metallofullerenes with a general structure of AxSc3-xN@C68 (where x=0-2, A=a rare earth metal, N=Nitrogen and Sc=Scandium) is described.
