The Millennium Ecosystem Assessment explores the link between human well-being, the status of ecosystems and their sustainable use. The Millennium Assessment examines the merits of options for mechanisms and policies, to accomplish the goal of maintaining, and enhance the delivery of ecosystem services to society.

Effect of aquaculture on world fish supplies

Article Abstract:

The effect of the expansion of the farming of fish and shellfish, which has more than doubled since 1985, on the ecology of wild fish stocks is discussed. The detrimental effects of aquaculture could be reduced by the adoption of better ecological management practices.

Issues concerning the effects of climate on ecosystems are discussed. Particular attention is given to research aspects to be considered when applying strategies of ecosystem management aimed at sustainability and to effects of contrastive environmental changes.
