Implementation of an ecosystem approach to endangered species conservation

Article Abstract:

Environmentalists are proposing the use of ecosystems management as an alternative to the species-oriented approach that has only been partially successful in the conservation of endangered species. Ecosystems management is appropriate in solving the increasingly complex problems besetting endangered species conservation. Additionally, it is cost-effective and offers several benefits not available to users of the single-species approach.

The recovery of the Cape Sable seaside sparrow through restoration of the Everglades ecosystem

Article Abstract:

The Cape Sable seaside sparrow has been an endangered species since 1967. The main factor in the bird's decline is the degradation of the everglades ecosystem and it is also highly vulnerable to to fire and flood management regimes. A costly restoration plan has been launched in an effort to halt the sparrow's decline and to return the everglades to a more natural state. Details of the program are presented.

The landscape ecosystem approach and conservation of endangered species

Article Abstract:

The landscape ecosystem approach, with its emphasis on spaces and species, is a comprehensive strategy for the conservation of endangered species, the preservation of ecological diversity and biodiversity and the restoration of natural landscapes. The approach, which considers the relationship between species and their habitats, are useful in studying proper ways of managing species and their habitats.
