Crystal structure of photosystem II from Synechococcus elongatus at 3.8 angstroms resolution

Article Abstract:

Research is presented concerning the use of electron crystallography and electron microscopy to determine the crystal structure of a large protein-cofactor complex, photosystem II, in Synechococcus elongatus.

Three-dimensional structure of cyanobacterial photosystem I at 2.5 A resolution

Article Abstract:

It has been possible to determine the X-ray crystal structure of photosystem I from the thermophilic cyanobacterium Synechococcus elongatus. The protein subunit PsaX was resolved into the structure and found to be an intrinsic element of the photosystem.

Towards complete cofactor arrangement in the 3.0 A resolution structure of photosystem II

Article Abstract:

The most complete cyanobacterial photosystem II structure showing locations of and interactions between 20 protein subunits and 77 cofactors per monomer is described. A lopophilic pathway for the diffusion of secondary plastoquinone that transfers redox equivalents from photosystem II to the photosynthetic chain is proposed, which uncovers near-atomic details necessary to understand the process that convert light to chemical energy.
