PML regulates p53 acetylation and premature senescence induced by oncogenic Ras

Article Abstract:

Research is presented concerning the activity of the tumour suppressor p53 which will induce cellular senescence following stimulation by oncogenic signals. Acetylation, phosphorylation and protein stability modulate the activity of p53.

Initiation of a G2/M checkpoint after ultraviolet radiation requires p38 kinase

Article Abstract:

Research into genotoxic stress and the initiation of G2/M checkpoints is described. It is shown that p38 kinase plays a major part in initiating a G2 delay following ultraviolet radiation.

DNA-dependent protein kinase is not required for the p53-dependent response to DNA damage

Article Abstract:

DNA damage in the cell activates p53, the tumour-suppressor protein. If this activation fails the result is genetic instability and a predisposition to cancer. The DNA-dependent protein kinase (DNA-PK) is thought to be a necessary activator of p53. The p53 response in primary mouse embryonic fibroblasts lacking DNA-PK was found to be fully functional. The results suggest that DNA-PK activity is not essential for cells to response to DNA damage.
