DNA-templated assembly and electrode attachment of a conducting silver wire

Article Abstract:

A tow-step procedure has been investigated that may permit DNA to be applied to building functional circuits. The DNA is hybridized with surface-bound oligonucleotides and this allows the DNA to be stretched between two gold electrodes. The molecule of DNA can then be employed as a template for conductive silver wire growth. It is possible to exploit the recognition capabilities that DNA possesses, and to use this for attaching functional wires in a targeted manner.

Unidirectional rotary motion in a molecular system

Article Abstract:

Among the more interesting challenges of modern science is the design and construction of synthetic molecular motors, molecules that can change shape in response to external stimuli. A new chemically-driven system has been created modifying a previous ratchet design so that a link can be made between one spoke of the wheel and the brake, so allowing motion in one direction.

Light-driven monodirectional molecular rotor

Article Abstract:

The aim of many modern scientists is to design and synthesize a molecular motor, but this has not yet been achieved, although they are common in biological systems. New research has created a light-powered chiral, helical alkene system which rotates in one direction around a central carbon-carbon double bond when activated by ultraviolet light.
