Destabilizaiton of Beta-catenin by mutations in presenilin-1 potentiates neuronal apoptosis

Article Abstract:

Reversed protocol, immunoprecipitation of Beta-catenin and immunoblot analysis for PS1, showed co-precipitation of Beta-catenin with the N and C terminal fragments of Ps1. This suggests that Beta-catenin occurs in one or more complexes having N and C terminal fragments of PS1. The function of the transcription factor Tcf mediating Beta-catenin signalling was studied to confirm the involvement of the Beta-catenin signalling pathway in the regulation of neuronal apoptosis.

A firm base for drug development

Article Abstract:

New research and reports by Yan and colleagues and Sinha and colleages, describes the identification of the Beta-secretase, implicated in Alzheimer's diseases. Development of medication requires validated animal models and well defined molecular targets, and the disease-causing mutations were discovered in the amyloid precursor protein (APP), enabling animal models to be developed.
