Difference of expression

Article Abstract:

Gene expression, the major determining factor of protein abundance in the cell, is regulated by various mechanisms, such as protein binding to the DNA sequence and interference by small RNA molecules. At DNA level there are many different mutations that affect gene expression levels, but very few potentially beneficial mutations that directly affect protein function.

Cohesin branches out

Article Abstract:

The article discusses the various effects of the large, ring-shaped protein complex, cohesin on the gene regulation in humans. The findings show that cohesin does not rest between divisions and hence its mutations can also lead to numerous developmental disorders.
