Oil rich, science poor

Article Abstract:

Muslim countries in the gulf region are wealthy on the strength of their oil reserves but little of that is wealth is used for scientific research. Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait spend about 0.2% of their GDP on science, less than 1/10th of the developed-country average of 2.3% but currently some efforts are being made to encourage research and science is being seen as alternative to natural resources.

Smithsonian looks beyond ousted boss

Article Abstract:

The researchers at the world's most prestigious natural history museum Smithsonian Institute report that the institute's core research budgets are falling for 15 years and there are no figures of the overall budget spend on science. This situation has forced the administrators to rely on outside funds.
